Developed by Rockstar Games, the highly anticipated next installment in the Grand Theft Auto series, GTA 6, has been generating major buzz ever since its first trailer was revealed in December 2023.
Although the game has been delayed from its original Fall 2025 release window to May 2026, Rockstar quickly followed up with a second trailer that featured actual in-game footage to ease players’ anticipation, while also confirming the launch platforms. GTA 6 Official Release Date
Following the release of the first trailer in December 2023, GTA 6 was initially set to launch in Fall 2025. However, Rockstar Games later announced a delay to ensure the game meets players’ high expectations. The new official release date is May 26, 2026.
GTA 6 Trailers
The first trailer for GTA 6 was released on December 5, 2023, and has since surpassed 250 million views with over a million comments — proof of the enormous hype around the game.
After a long silence and many false rumors about a second trailer, Rockstar finally dropped the second trailer unexpectedly on May 6, 2025. This new video featured actual gameplay footage recorded on the PS5, and also confirmed the game’s launch platforms.
GTA 6 Launch Platforms — Is There a PC Version?
GTA 6 will first launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. There is no PC version at launch.
Based on previous Rockstar titles like GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, the PC version is expected to arrive more than a year later. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has stated before that Rockstar prefers launching on specific platforms first before porting the game to others.
How Much Will GTA 6 Cost?
While the official price has not yet been revealed, with Nintendo Switch 2 and Microsoft Xbox raising first-party game prices to $80 USD, it is expected that GTA 6 will not be cheaper than $80.
Some analysts have even predicted that GTA 6 could be priced as high as $100 USD, potentially setting a new standard in AAA game pricing.

The game features several distinct regions within the state of Leonida, inspired by Florida:
- Vice City
The game returns to Vice City, Rockstar’s take on Miami. Though the 1980s are long gone, Vice City remains the capital of sunshine and sin — a city full of charm, chaos, and greed. From white sandy beaches and pastel art deco hotels to bustling neighborhoods like Little Cuba and counterfeit-ridden flea markets, each area has its own vibe. - Leonida Keys
Nicknamed “The Gateway to Paradise”, this tropical island chain is relaxed and lively, filled with bars and casual hangouts. It’s a beautiful but dangerous coastline — the perfect place to kick back with a drink, but always keep your guard up. - Grassrivers
A vast, wild area at the heart of Leonida. Alligators might be the most iconic locals, but even deadlier predators and strange surprises lurk in the mangrove swamps. - Port Gellhorn
Once a booming resort destination, now a forgotten coastline filled with rundown motels and deserted malls. Yet a new economy is emerging here, powered by malt liquor, painkillers, and gas-station energy drinks. Ride dirt bikes, keep your wallet close. - Ambrosia
The industrial and economic core of Leonida. Corporate power and old-school values reign supreme, no matter the cost. Local sugar company Unicrystal offers jobs; biker gangs offer everything else. - Mount Carraway
A northern frontier area filled with wilderness — a landmark known for top-tier hunting, fishing, and off-roading. It’s also home to a community of backwoods recluses and paranoid radicals, living off the grid and away from government eyes.
GTA 6 Main Characters — Who Are They?
GTA 6 will feature dual protagonists: a male and a female lead — a first for the series.

Raised in hardship, Lucia learned to fight at a young age. Her loyalty to family led her to prison in Leonida, and her early release was pure luck. Now she’s determined to seize control of her life, pursuing a dream her mother once had back in Liberty City — a better life at all costs. - Jason Duvall
“If it all goes wrong, I’ve got your back.”
Jason grew up around swindlers and thieves. He joined the military to escape his past, but ended up doing errands for drug dealers in the Keys after discharge. Meeting Lucia may be the best — or worst — thing to ever happen to him. Jason wants a better life, but things are about to get more complicated than ever.
GTA 6 Storyline
In GTA 6, Jason and Lucia both know that life has never been fair to them.
One seemingly simple job goes wrong, and they suddenly find themselves drawn deep into the darkest side of America’s sunniest state. Caught in a sprawling criminal conspiracy across Leonida, they’ll need to trust each other like never before — if they want to make it out alive.
GTA 6 Leak Incident
In September 2022, a massive leak revealed a large amount of early development footage and screenshots of GTA 6. Rockstar confirmed the content was real and expressed deep disappointment.
